(3/24/10) We are a sponsor for The Biggest Winner Challenge between the Greensboro Police Department and Greensboro Firefighters. Twenty people from both the fire and police force have joined this challenge to not only better their lives but to raise funds for regional charity organizations. Additionally, both the fire chief and police chief have joined in on the challenge.
On February 1, 2010, the twenty-two men and women who serve this community began an exercise routine provided by Cross Fit of Greensboro and a nutritional program provided by Triad Complete Nutrition. Each team will be raising funds to be donated to the charities they have chosen. The team who loses the most weight collectively at the end of the eight- week challenge, will not only have their funds to contribute, but the funds from corporate sponsors.
The firefighters have chosen to raise money for the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center. Since it’s opening in 1981, the burn center has saved hundreds of lives and helped thousands of children and adults through rehabilitation. The center has become recognized as one of the best comprehensive burn centers in the world. The police officers have chosen to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. There are an estimated one million cases of Type 1 diabetes and the foundation spends millions of dollars each year in search of a cure. The foundation provides education, support and advocacy for those children living with the condition.
We pledged our support to make a difference in our community by supporting the men and women who serve and protect us to lead a healthier lifestyle. Ultimately, our support will benefit one of the two agencies that make a difference in thousands of lives each year. Together we can help to enrich the lives of those in need and those who serve.
The Police and Fire Departments have selected The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, a publically supported 501c3 nonprofit (Fed. Tax ID 56-1380249)to administer receipt of charitable contributions, and to oversee the final grant payments to the Burn Center and Juvenile Diabetes.
